You must be at least 16 years old to apply for any of the listed positions.
Essayist (OPEN):
Write essays regularly in accordance with your bandwidth and availability. This means you choose how often you contribute an essay (whether it's once a month or once every three months).
You choose the topics of your essays, as long as they don't display opinions that go against the values of EFF.
Each essay should be a minimum of 1500 words and can extend as long as 5000 words. You can include images if relevant. All essays are proofread before publication. To make this position more accessible to people who write as [a part of] their job, you can re-publish your essays 4 months after they've appeared on EFF.
How much time you dedicate to this role is highly dependent on how often you contribute an essay to the campaign and how quickly you write them. 1 essay every 2 months (what our current essayists contribute on average) may require around 1-2h/week.
Graphic designer (CLOSED):
Regularly create Instagram posts (1-3/week) to inform people about our campaign and gain subscribers. You will also be in charge of developing the graphics of the campaign and editing the website if necessary and creating any logos, banners, and posters.
The text included in posts and any other kind of promotional content will generally not be your responsibility, but you may be asked to help create it.
Basic Canva knowledge is required.
~1-2h/week
Social media manager (OPEN):
Currently, our only social media profile is on Instagram. You'll be tasked with running the account, spreading the word of the campaign, contacting creators to help us gain traction, and schedule the posts created by the graphic designer(s).
~1.5h/week
Administrative assistant (CLOSED):
Reply to emails, scout potential new team members, and help coordinate the team. This last part includes managing the essay publication schedule, making sure all essays have their corresponding voice-over (incl. who is voicing over what), and verifying our Instagram is running smoothly.
You will also have to create the financial reports in conjunction with the graphic designer(s) and the creator.
This role requires detailed knowledge of how EFF functions, so you should already be familiar with us. This role is especially recommended if you are currently a part of the team and wish to transfer to this role.
Because this role gives you access to somewhat sensitive information, you are either required to have a public, online presence (whether it's with your face, voice, words, all three) or be personally recommended by a current team member.
Additionally, a virtual interview will be conducted and you'll have a two-week period in which you're in contact with the rest of the team but not carrying out the duties of this role. This is so you get more familiarized with the dynamic and have an easier time navigating your role.
~2.5-3h/week
